Community Resiliency

Helping New Yorkers get the support they need to withstand and emerge stronger from the impacts of climate change

Many resources are available at the national, state, and local level to support NYC residents and businesses with the community and financial support they need to adapt to a changing climate.

Be a Buddy

Be a Buddy is a community-led social resiliency program that connects the residents most vulnerable to the impacts of extreme weather with volunteers who provide wellness checks and connections to city services

Community Preparedness

NYC Emergency Management helps local organizations build capacity within their community to prepare for, respond to, and recover from an emergency. This includes training classes and events, preparedness and emergency information, preparedness resources for disability, access, and functional needs populations, and connecting established community networks to the City’s Emergency Operations Center during a disaster.

Business Preparedness

Small businesses are the backbone of New York’s economy and neighborhoods. After extreme weather events or other emergencies, small businesses can be caught off guard and unprepared for the disruption. From loss of utility service, suppliers, and customer bases to the onerous requirements for successful insurance claim submission, business owners face an uphill battle to remain operational. The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) has resources to help businesses understand risks and get personalized recommendations to prepare for disruptions.
